Moldova intends to secure accession to the EU by 2030 and therefore will try to open all negotiation clusters with Brussels by the end of the summer. This was stated by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, leader of the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS).

In the 2025 parliamentary elections, President Maia Sandu and her ruling Party of Action and Solidarity promised that Moldova would join the EU by 2028, although 2030 had previously been set as the target year. In PAS’s latest program, the timeline for accession has been pushed back indefinitely.

“We continue to convince our European partners that we deserve the opening of all six negotiation clusters by the end of this summer. We continue to meet the conditions and adopt laws as if we already had an official political decision to open all the clusters,” Grosu said on Moldova 1 television.

According to him, Moldova “must conclude negotiations with the European Union in 2028 in order to become a member of the bloc by 2030.” Grosu noted that the republic still needs to open four more negotiation clusters, and Chisinau has already begun technical preparations for these processes. Negotiations on joining the EU do not guarantee accession and do not set any deadlines. For example, Turkey, whose accession is not foreseeable in the near term, began negotiations on joining the European Union in 2005.
