The United Kingdom will provide €300 million in aid to Kyiv for the purchase of 16 multirole Gripen fighter jets. This was stated in a release from the office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

“The funding will allow Ukraine to form a squadron of 16 Swedish Gripen E multirole fighter jets by 2029. The aid package also includes training for pilots and engineering and technical personnel, the supply of simulators, spare parts, and other equipment needed to bring the aircraft into service and deploy them on the front line,” the statement says.

Earlier, specialized defense publications estimated the total value of the contract for the delivery of 16 Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine at €2.2 billion.

The statement was released during Starmer’s trip to Kyiv — his last foreign visit as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He is expected to leave office on July 20.
