Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled his planned visit to the United States next week because it was not possible to arrange a meeting with US President Donald Trump, Israeli TV channel I24 reported, citing sources.

"The date of the meeting was never determined, and no preliminary agreements were reached regarding its agenda or expected outcomes," the channel explained.

According to the sources, "intensive efforts" were made in recent days to organize a meeting between Netanyahu and Trump during the visit, but "these efforts ultimately failed."

On Thursday, the office of the Israeli prime minister said that the postponement of the visit was related to a change in the date of Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral, which Netanyahu had planned to attend. However, according to I24, the decision to cancel the visit was caused not only by scheduling considerations.

The diplomatic background, as I24 notes, became significantly more complicated after the collapse of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

"Right now, Netanyahu is not interested in a photo op at the White House. It is simply not the right time now," a source told the channel.
