A startup in the United States has developed microdrones capable of knocking mosquitoes out of the air, Oddity Central writes.

American startup Tornyol, with support from Y Combinator, is developing AI-powered microdrones capable of hunting mosquitoes in urban environments. According to the engineers’ concept, swarms of these 40-gram devices will be able to knock down insects, replacing chemical and costly control methods and reducing costs by 100 times.

According to the engineers, the drones are equipped with microphones, ultrasonic sensors, and special software, gazeta.ru reports. They emit ultrasonic pulses and receive the echo, and by the characteristic Doppler signal of the wings they distinguish mosquitoes from other insects.

Experts hope that in the future, 10 such drones will be able to clear one square kilometer of mosquitoes. The project is still at an early stage, but it has already attracted attention as a potentially revolutionary solution for fighting malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.
