Moscow and Beijing are discussing all aspects of settling the conflict in Ukraine in a trusting manner and at various levels. This was stated in an interview with TASS by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.

“We continue to maintain close contact with our Chinese friends on issues related to the Ukraine settlement, discussing in a trusting manner, in a timely way, and at various levels all the main developments in this area,” he said.

Rudenko added that Russia is “grateful to the Chinese side for its balanced position on the Ukrainian crisis, based on a deep understanding of its geopolitical nature and root causes. We welcome China’s desire to play a positive role in the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis,” the deputy minister emphasized.

“We value that Beijing remains committed to international law, the letter and spirit of the UN Charter, as well as friendship and strategic partnership with Russia,” he continued. “The Chinese side has repeatedly confirmed, including in the joint statement adopted by the leaders of the two countries on May 20, the need to completely eliminate the root causes of the conflict for its final settlement. This approach is also fully reflected in China’s conceptual foreign policy documents, in particular in the ‘Global Security Initiative’ presented by Xi Jinping in 2023.

As Rudenko noted, Moscow and Beijing jointly oppose “any states and their blocs harming the legitimate security interests of other countries in order to gain military, political, and other advantages.”
