The United States is on the verge of returning to a full-scale war with Iran after the death of another American service member in Iraq. The Washington Post (WP) reported this on July 19, citing sources.

"The U.S. is teetering on the brink of resuming full-scale war with Iran after even more service members were killed," the publication said.

According to one American official, expanding the operation will be complicated by dwindling stocks of air defense assets and long-range munitions, as well as limitations on the ability to redeploy additional troops and aircraft to the region due to battle damage.

"We do not have enough assets to conduct operations safely, and I don’t think the White House knows that," the newspaper’s source said.

On July 19, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that an American service member was killed in Iraq as a result of the detonation of unexploded ordnance brought down from an Iranian drone. It was also reported that unidentified remains were discovered in Jordan during a search operation after Iran’s attack. Earlier that day, CENTCOM had reported one service member missing and two others killed in that area.

The New York Times reported the same day that dozens of American troops were wounded as a result of Iranian strikes on air bases in Jordan, and several helicopters were damaged. It was specified that around 20 American service members were injured while trying to take shelter in bunkers during Tehran’s attack on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, Jordan.
