In Turkey, law enforcement authorities have detained the head of the Izmit district municipality, Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, and her husband, Murat Hürriyet, as part of an investigation being conducted into the municipality, Haber Global reports.

According to available information, in addition to Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet and her husband Murat Hürriyet, detention warrants have been issued for 31 more suspects. So far, 28 of them have been detained.

According to available data, as part of the investigation, police carried out searches in the Izmit municipality building and in Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet’s apartment in the morning.

According to a statement from the Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office, those detained, including the municipality head and her husband, have been charged with forming a criminal organization, corruption, and fraud in the conduct of tenders.

On the instructions of the prosecutor’s office, on July 20 law enforcement authorities simultaneously carried out operations in Antalya, Kırıkkale, Izmit, Istanbul, and Ankara.
