Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand urged Tehran and Washington to begin a dialogue and ensure the safety of civilians amid the ongoing hostilities between the two sides.

Speaking in Islamabad alongside her Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, Anand said that Canada is concerned about strikes on civilian infrastructure, especially desalination plants.

“We are concerned about attacks on civilian infrastructure facilities, including power plants and desalination plants, which put civilians at risk,” she stressed. “We call on all sides to exercise restraint, prioritize the protection of civilians, and take the path of dialogue.”

The Canadian foreign minister’s remarks came against the backdrop of continuing exchanges of military strikes between Iran and the United States, taking place despite the memorandum of understanding signed last month with Pakistan’s mediation.
