UK Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary David Lammy, as well as Chancellor Rachel Reeves, left the government without waiting for the announcement of the new cabinet line-up by Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Both politicians were considered close allies of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer. According to British media, the post of deputy prime minister in the new cabinet may go to Labour Party deputy leader Lucy Powell, while the Treasury will likely be headed by current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.
Andy Burnham took office as prime minister on Monday, replacing Keir Starmer, who resigned after pressure from lawmakers in the ruling Labour Party following defeat in the May local elections.
