President Donald Trump warned of harsh retaliation for the deaths of American service members at the hands of Iran after a tragic weekend for the U.S. military.
“Every time Iran kills an American soldier, it will pay for that killing many times over!” he wrote on the social network Truth Social.
He said that he had already passed the relevant orders to the country’s top military leadership. “This directive was conveyed to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Daniel Caine, and every commander in the military,” Trump added.
The Pentagon confirmed the deaths of three American service members over the weekend, including two at a military base in Jordan and one in northern Iraq.
At present, the military continues to identify unidentified remains found at the site of the attack in Jordan, which may indicate a possible rise in the death toll.
