Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and other regional mediators have presented the United States and Iran with a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire, two regional sources told Axios.

According to U.S. officials, the Trump administration is reviewing the proposal and has urged Israel to avoid steps that could close the diplomatic window.

At the same time, Washington is also preparing for the talks to fail. In recent days, the U.S. military has sent dozens of fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft to the region.

Israeli sources said that the Israeli military is preparing for a possible expansion of the war.

During the 10-day ceasefire period, if it is established, the United States and Iran will hold talks on a longer-term agreement regulating passage through the strait.

According to one regional source, one option would allow Iran to charge “reasonable service fees” in the areas of maritime security, environmental protection, and other fields.

Another idea is to direct the fees into a joint fund managed with the participation of the International Maritime Organization.

One regional source said that the White House may continue bombing Iran for several more days in retaliation for the deaths of U.S. service members in Jordan before seriously considering this proposal.
