Today, near the entrance to the Acropolis Museum in Athens, a man for no apparent reason attacked two tourists of Greek-American origin with a knife. The woman sustained a minor leg wound, while the man was seriously injured in the arm. Both were taken to hospital.

The attacker was detained. According to the newspaper Kathimerini, he is a 60-year-old Greek citizen who apparently has no permanent place of residence. Before the attack, he is said to have threatened several passers-by.

Police believe the man may have mental health problems. The motive for the attack remains unknown, Bild reports. The suspect had previously been detained for insults.
