According to NEWS.am sources, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has just decided to strip Narek Karapetyan of his parliamentary immunity.

Earlier, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan told reporters that the criminal case involving Karapetyan is related to charges brought against Alexan Aleksanyan, a supporter of the Strong Armenia party.

It is recalled that the CEC had been reviewing a motion submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the removal of Narek Karapetyan’s parliamentary immunity and the initiation of public criminal prosecution against him.

Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan and other representatives of the Strong Armenia party consider the developments unlawful and describe them as political persecution.
