U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Philippines, he discussed the need to end the war against Ukraine. Rubio wrote about this on the social network X.

The U.S. Secretary of State did not disclose details of the talks, which took place on the sidelines of the annual meeting of foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Manila.

“Today I met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN ministerial meeting. We discussed U.S.-Russia relations, as well as the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine,” Rubio noted.

As the AP news agency reports, before the meeting Rubio and Lavrov ignored journalists’ questions about whether Russia is helping Iran by providing data on U.S. facilities in the region, and when Russia will end the war in Ukraine.

Lavrov did not answer the questions, but told journalists to “speak louder,” although the room was quiet and the question was clearly audible.

When the Russian minister left the meeting about half an hour later, Lavrov was again asked whether Russia was helping Iran attack American troops. “Nice haircut,” he replied, staring intently at the reporter.
