The negotiating teams of China and the United States are working through issues related to lifting reciprocal tariffs on goods worth about $30 billion. This was stated by Meng Huating, head of the Department for the Administration of Foreign Investment at China’s Ministry of Commerce.

“During the [recent] visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to China, the leaders of the two states defined a new concept of constructive relations of strategic stability between China and the United States,” she said at a press conference. “The trade and economic delegations of the two countries are closely coordinating on specific issues and are discussing framework terms for the mutual reduction of tariffs on goods worth $30 billion.”

As the official clarified, the Chinese authorities are maintaining contacts with interested parties — domestic enterprises, regional authorities, and профильными associations — to discuss proposals concerning measures to reduce tariffs.

Beijing and Washington are holding consultations on removing mutual trade barriers that arose in connection with the protectionist measures of the White House. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, China-U.S. trade turnover in January–June exceeded $289 billion, having changed little compared with the same period in 2025.
