On the night of July 24, a massive power outage occurred throughout Georgia, including Tbilisi and other cities. Electricity also went out in occupied Abkhazia.

The outage occurred simultaneously at around 00:10. Due to the failure, the pumping stations of Georgian Water and Power automatically shut down. Electricity consumption in the country dropped sharply — from 1,860 to 564 MW.

Power supply began to be partially restored after 02:00, and by morning electricity had been restored across the country. The State Electrosystem said that the causes of the accident are being established, and details will be published later.

This is not the first such incident in Georgia: in April 2025, a large-scale outage occurred due to an accident on the 500 kV Kavkasioni power transmission line.
