The decrease in the number of deceased American service members in the Pentagon’s official data from 18 to 14 is related to a technical glitch that will be fixed. This was stated by Pentagon Assistant to the Secretary for Public Affairs Sean Parnell.

According to him, the error occurred due to a temporary data transmission failure in the casualty analysis system. Parnell also accused The New York Times, which drew attention to the change in the statistics, of spreading inaccurate information.

Earlier, the NYT reported that the Pentagon had removed four service members from the list who were killed after the ceasefire between the United States and Iran had already taken effect. The newspaper also claimed that the department had not disclosed data on dozens of American service members wounded as a result of Iranian strikes on Jordan.
