U.S. President Donald Trump was angered that Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced an agreement with Saudi Arabia in the field of nuclear energy without prior notice. CNN reported this, citing sources.

According to the broadcaster, Trump’s dissatisfaction grew after experts and conservative media criticized the deal. Later, the American leader said that approval of the agreement depends on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords on normalizing relations with Israel.

CNN sources claim that the White House had previously asked the Department of Energy not to announce the agreement, but Wright did so on his own. The U.S. administration said that Saudi Arabia had been informed of Trump’s condition.

On July 22, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that it had concluded an agreement with Saudi Arabia to support the kingdom’s peaceful nuclear program. The document has been submitted to the U.S. Congress for review and is intended to remain in effect for several decades. Washington said the deal is aimed at expanding the participation of American companies in the development of Saudi nuclear energy.
