YEREVAN. – The ceasefire agreement is a significant achievement in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, expert Masis Mailian told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

To note, May 12 this year marks the 18th anniversary of concluding a ceasefire agreement in the Karabakh zone.

“It was effective, as the agreement was achieved on May 12 in 1994 by the heads of Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia and in cooperation with Russia, where the sides concluded indefinite ceasefire. According to the document, the sides were obliged to maintain ceasefire till Agreement on the Cessation of Armed Conflict is concluded, which provides for a complete cessation of hostilities,” he said adding unlike other conflicts, the region lacks international troops to secure peace and the ceasefire is based on the balance between the sides.
