Brazil summoned its ambassador in Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli, for consultations after Argentine President Javier Milei criticized Brazilian President Luiz da Silva and Brazilian Federal Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed to CNN Brazil that these statements are regarded as an “insult” demonstrating disrespect toward the president, the judicial system, and the people of Brazil.
In diplomacy, recalling an ambassador for consultations signifies a strong protest against the actions of another state.
Earlier, the Argentine president called Lula a “prisoner” and de Moraes “a bald piece of trash.”
