U.S. President Donald Trump denies that dwindling ammunition stockpiles are a problem for continuing hostilities against Iran.

In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, he said: "We have far more munitions than anyone else in the world, and far more than we need."

Trump postponed a major escalation of his military campaign against Iran amid efforts to resume diplomatic talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and debates over the impact of dwindling ammunition stockpiles, U.S. officials familiar with the matter said.

According to the officials, on Friday the U.S. military was prepared to begin an intensive series of strikes on Iran that could have lasted up to two weeks.
