The number of American service members wounded during the US operation against Iran has risen to 624, the New York Times reported, citing Pentagon publications.

The newspaper notes that on Sunday the Pentagon began publishing separate information on casualties incurred since July 7, when the latest round of conflict escalation began, and since the start of the operation in February. Military sources told the newspaper that this change was made in light of the fact that Iran and the United States had reached a ceasefire in April, while the latest casualties date to July.

 "The official number of soldiers wounded since that date (July 7) now stands at 207, bringing the overall total to 624 since the start of the conflict," the publication writes.

On Thursday, the newspaper reported that the number of American service members killed during the conflict against Iran listed on the Pentagon website had suddenly decreased. The publication claimed that three military officials and a Pentagon spokesperson gave conflicting explanations for what had happened. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell called the newspaper's report false.
