US President Donald Trump is considering three options for how the war with Iran could develop. This was reported by The New York Times.

According to the newspaper, these are: military escalation; economic pressure on Iran through new sanctions; or declaring US victory in the war and withdrawing from the conflict. "Each of these options has been discussed in recent weeks at meetings with US Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner," the newspaper specified.

The New York Times notes that over the five months of the conflict, the US has failed to achieve its goals, including regime change in Iran through the use of "overwhelming military force."

The latest escalation of the US-Iranian conflict began on July 8. For the first time since the signing of the memorandum between Washington and Tehran, US armed forces carried out several series of strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic, allegedly in response to an attack on a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, Trump announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran. In response, Tehran began striking US facilities in the Middle East located in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Oman. On July 24, the two sides ceased the exchange of strikes.
