The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the inclusion of the Normandy beaches (France) on its World Heritage List. The organization made the announcement on July 26.

"New inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List: the D-Day landing beaches of Normandy," the organization stated in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

As is known, during Operation Overlord in 1944, Allied forces of the anti-Hitler coalition landed on the coast of Normandy. This landing operation went down in history as the opening of the second front in the fight against Nazi Germany; it involved 156,000 Allied soldiers.
