International human rights lawyer Robert Amsterdam has written:

"The course of events in Armenia shows that the likelihood is becoming real that this convocation of the National Assembly will conduct its work without the blessing of the Catholicos of All Armenians.

However much this may be the logical continuation of Nikol Pashinyan's campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church, one nevertheless wants to hope that common sense will prevail.

In defending the rights of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, I have witnessed how authorities who set out against the clergy ultimately meet their inevitable defeat, while the Church emerges victorious.

The fight against the Church has no future.

Today, when the Prime Minister of Armenia himself already senses that the campaign he launched is not finding response or support among the Armenian people, this is the right moment to stop.

It is time to silence political ambitions and, once and for all, not betray traditions or undermine the foundations of statehood."
