Oman has proposed to Iran a mechanism for the joint regulation of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which предусматривает voluntary contributions. Reuters reported this, citing a source in the region.
According to the source, Oman’s proposal enjoys support in the region. Under the proposal, Tehran would not exercise sole control over the strait. “It is based on the situation in the Strait of Malacca: those who use it make voluntary contributions for navigation, environmental protection, and search and rescue operations,” the Reuters source said.
