Iran is ready for negotiations, but does not trust the United States because Washington has violated commitments it previously undertook. This was stated by Iran’s ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, at a press conference in Beijing, Mehr reports.

According to him, Tehran has maintained from the very beginning that it is acting solely in self-defense and is responding to US strikes.

“As soon as the US stops its aggression, we will also halt our retaliatory actions,” the diplomat emphasized.

Rahmani Fazli noted that the Persian Gulf countries, as well as China, Russia, Pakistan, and a number of European states, are making efforts to stop the war, given its economic impact and consequences for regional security.

The ambassador also expressed confidence that China is capable of playing an important role in resolving the conflict. According to him, Beijing consistently advocates negotiations, de-escalation, strengthening collective security, and developing regional cooperation.

“China has taken many valuable steps to support peace both in the UN Security Council and at the regional level, and we highly appreciate these efforts,” he said.

Speaking about the prospects for negotiations, the Iranian diplomat stressed that Tehran remains ready for dialogue. However, according to him, after the US violated the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad and refused to fulfill its obligations, Iran lost trust in the American side.
