U.S. senators on Wednesday voted to move forward with consideration of a bill that would allow for additional sanctions against Russia, U.S. media reported.

In the procedural vote, 82 senators voted in favor of the bill, while 12 voted against it.

The reports emphasize that such results show that senators will ultimately approve the bill without difficulty.

At the same time, it remains unclear when the final vote will take place. It is possible that it could be held as early as next week. After that, starting August 10, the Senate will suspend its work until September.

For its part, the House of Representatives will only be able to consider the bill in September, as it is already on summer recess.

The now-late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham played a key role in drafting the sanctions bill, and a memorial service for him was held a few hours earlier in Washington.
