Ukraine must unconditionally accept accountability for the attack on an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea, and the claims that the strike was unintentional are unconvincing. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said this during a phone conversation with European foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

Earlier, Araghchi had stated that in a phone conversation with him, Acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha had called the attack on the aforesaid Iranian ship by Ukraine unintentional.

The Iranian foreign minister has stated that, given Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s clear statements in which he accepted accountability for the attack on the Iranian merchant ship, the claim that this attack was unintentional is unconvincing. Ukraine must be held unconditionally accountable for this crime, which led to the death and injury of Iranian citizens and the destruction of an Iranian merchant ship, said a statement posted on the Telegram channel of the Iranian foreign ministry.
