The first court hearing in the case of the attack on the cemetery of the Armenian Saint Garabet Church in Istanbul, Turkey, has been scheduled for August 20, reports the Istanbul-based Armenian Agos weekly.

The sole defendant in the case, 55-year-old Muharrem Kun, pleaded guilty and expressed remorse for his actions. He claimed that he had acted on his own and was not directed by anyone.

On the night of July 7, a person or persons had entered the cemetery of the Armenian Saint Garabet Church and broken 6 tombstones and a memorial fountain.

A criminal case was opened based on a complaint from the Armenian community in Istanbul.
