Reaching an agreement between Iran and Oman on the route through the Strait of Hormuz does not mean that the waterway will immediately reopen to navigation, said Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Islamic Republic's foreign ministry.

"Reaching an agreement on a safe navigation route through the Strait of Hormuz is a necessary but not sufficient condition for [re]opening the strait," Baghaei said during a press conference.

He added that the reason for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is not the disagreements between Tehran and Muscat, but the aggression of the US and Israel against Iran.
