The Past daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: At the phase when the process of forming a new government is underway [in Armenia], the ruling team is preparing public opinion to continue the incumbent prime minister’s tenure, throwing into the arena a tried-and-tested political trick. Representatives of the ruling elite, justifying the leader’s desire to remain in office, are once again making a reference to the “experience of democratically advanced countries” and cite the examples of European leaders, in particular, [former German chancellor] Angela Merkel’s long-term tenure, as a justification.

This is not the first case when the [Armenian] ruling team turns to the model of the “civilized world” to legitimize its own political ambitions and decisions. The same logic applies when justifying the high salaries and generous bonuses of state officials of the state apparatus, or when updating the official car fleet; all this is presented as a necessity to comply with international standards.

However, a legitimate question arises here: and when will this “European standard” spread to the everyday life of an ordinary [Armenian] citizen? When will we have quality content and real knowledge in the educational sector, not just externally renovated and painted school buildings? When will we form such armed forces where the priority is the life and safety of the soldier, not PR videos and show-off shots, and where tragic accidents and suicides will be excluded?

The answer is perhaps more than obvious. According to the authorities’ logic, the main problem of [Armenia’s] society is not systemic shortcomings, but “deep sociopsychological” complexes, the way to overcome which the country’s leadership is still looking for.

If this is the solution to the problem, then the proposed option is simple: let the authorities’ elite continue to live, work, and make use of the “high European standards” with their high incomes and comfort, whereas the [Armenian] society, following that "civilized" life on screens, will perhaps understand that social problems are only in perceptions, and thus will automatically solve all its psychological obstacles.
