Islamabad attaches great importance to strengthening “ties” with Moscow, Yerevan, and Baku, Pakistani ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said in an interview with TASS.

Commenting on the establishing of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia against the backdrop of the easing of tensions between Baku and Yerevan, as well as the appointment of the first-ever Armenian ambassador to Pakistan, the diplomat stressed that “Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Caucasus have a lot in common with Pakistan.”

“We [i.e. Pakistan] have not had diplomatic relations with Armenia for many years, and I am very happy that after the recent events, there has been a realization of the need to establish normal relations with Armenia,” said Faisal Niaz Tirmizi. “If you look at the recent events, I have traveled a lot in Dagestan, Chechnya, Sochi, Krasnodar, and I have been to Azerbaijan. Historically, there is a huge connection between the Caucasus region and Pakistan. I see a lot of prospects between Pakistan, Armenia, and the entire Caucasus region.”

“I have also been to Dubai. There are many marriages between Armenians and Pakistanis there. This contributes to the establishment of people-to-people contacts, the development of trade and culture. And I think that Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Caucasus have a lot in common with Pakistan,” added the Pakistani diplomat.

Also, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi shared that since childhood he dreamed of reading books about the history of the Caucasus.

"I have been fortunate to visit many countries and places in this region. So, we [i.e. Pakistan] have historical ties with the Caucasus, and Armenia is a very important component of them. I see how human contacts and business ties are now being established between Armenia and Pakistan," concluded the Pakistani ambassador to Russia.
