Porsche has conducted an unusual demonstration of the capabilities of its new electric Cayenne Turbo Electric, making the crossover to drive directly under the world's largest plane as it took off, Jalopnik reports.
The test was conducted at the Mojave Air and Space Port airport in California. The Stratolaunch Roc aircraft, which is considered the largest in the world by wingspan, participated in it. Thanks to the two fuselages and the engines located on their outer sides, there is a space between them where the car can drive.
At the steering wheel of this electric crossover was professional racing driver Patrick Long. His task was not to overtake the plane, but to accurately repeat its acceleration and speed, staying between the two fuselages throughout the entire run. Although the Roc has a top speed of 257 km/h, this was no problem for the Cayenne. According to Porsche, the electric version of the model develops 1,139 horsepower, accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.1 seconds, and has a top speed of 261 km/h.
According to Long, at the beginning of the launch, he had to deliberately limit the acceleration so as not to overtake the plane. When all six engines of the Roc reached full throttle, the driver turned on the Boost mode and continued to hold the car next to the aircraft chassis. Once the plane took off, the car's speedometer showed more than 270 km/h.
