Moscow and Yerevan are discussing opening a Russian consulate general in Kapan, Armenia, and an Armenian consular department in Vladikavkaz, Russia. Bagir Mamiyev, head of the Russian foreign ministry's representative office in Vladikavkaz, told this to RIA Novosti.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced plans to open an Armenian consular office in  the North Ossetia–Alania Republic of Russia back in 2023. And Vladikavkaz is the capital of this republic.

"As of today, this matter [of opening an Armenian consular department in Vladikavkaz], as well as the matter of opening a Russian consulate general in Kapan, is not removed from the bilateral agenda, but it is too early to talk about specific timeframes," Mamiyev noted.

At the same time, he emphasized that the Russian foreign ministry's representative office in Vladikavkaz maintains stable working relations with the consulate general of Armenia in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. This also applies to the issues of concern to Armenian freight forwarders at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the border between Russia and Georgia. Lars remains the only land route connecting Russia with Georgia, and then with Armenia.
