Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan have signed a new trilateral defense agreement, officially called the Mecca Agreement, Turkish media report.

The key provision of this pact is the clause on collective defense. Accordingly, any armed attack against one of these three states will be considered an attack against all three.

The agreement aims to strengthen “collective deterrence” of aggression and expand all aspects of defense cooperation between the three countries.

A Turkish official said the Mecca Agreement is not aimed at any specific actor and remains open to other countries in the region to join.
