Despite Europe's efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian energy supplies, the amount of liquefied natural gas imports from Russia to the European Union (EU) has increased again.

Accordingly, in June, EU countries bought 14% more liquefied natural gas from Russia than a year ago, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper of Germany reports, citing data from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).

In addition, according to CREA, Russia's revenues from energy supplies to Europe have increased, reaching 60 million euros per day, Bild reports.

Most of the Russian liquefied natural gas was purchased by France.

At the same time, a complete ban on Russian liquefied natural gas imports under long-term contracts by the European Union is due to come into force on January 1, 2027. Supplies under short-term contracts are already prohibited.
