Aram Vardevanyan, an MP from the opposition “Strong Armenia” Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, has been elected the third NA deputy speaker.

The results of the respective vote were presented at the NA session on Monday by Lilit Minasyan, chairwoman of the NA Counting Commission.

And as per the secret ballot results, Vardevanyan received 53 votes in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions.

Earlier, the head of the ruling majority “Civil Contract” Faction, Arusyak Manavazyan, had announced that the faction had decided to vote—with a sufficient number of votes—in favor of Vardevanyan’s candidacy for the position of NA deputy speaker.

NA speaker Ruben Rubinyan said that they had secured the minimum number of votes—13 votes.

The NA opposition "Armenia" Faction also had announced that they will vote in favor of Aram Vardevanyan's candidacy.

The two NA vice-speakers nominated and elected earlier by the "Civil Contract" Faction of the 9th convocation of the National Assembly are Hayk Konjoryan and Vahagn Aleksanyan.
