Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Egyptian Ambassador Amal Afifi on the occasion of Egypt’s national holiday, Revolution Day, the president’s office informs.

The president congratulated the ambassador and the friendly people of Egypt, and asked her to convey his congratulations to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

“In the thousand-year history of our two peoples, we have not had a historical page where there were problems between the peoples of the two countries, and this is very appreciable. It is appreciable in the sense that we continue the best traditions after independence. Our government, the authorities are interested in deepening, strengthening, and developing relations with Egypt,” the Armenian president said in particular.

The Egyptian ambassador, in turn, thanked the Armenian president for the reception and congratulations.

During the meeting, the parties touched upon the close cooperation established between Armenia and Egypt in political, economic, cultural, tourism, and other spheres, emphasizing the importance of its further expansion and development in new directions.

Particular importance was attached to the potential for cooperation in the fields of high technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity. It was noted that the exchange of experience and knowledge in these domains can become the basis for the implementation of joint innovative programs and the development of new technological solutions, also taking into account the fact that an AI factory was opened in Armenia a few days ago.

The parties attached importance also to the deepening of cooperation in the fields of education and science, stressing the need to expand scientific and educational programs, as well as the exchange of students, young specialists, and scientists.

In addition, the effective cooperation established between Armenia and Egypt on international platforms was highly appreciated. It was noted that cooperation based on mutual trust is of great importance both for the promotion of the interests of both countries and for the further development of their bilateral relations.

Furthermore, the importance of high-level mutual visits was emphasized, which provide additional impetus to political dialogue and contribute to the expansion of economic, business, cultural, and tourism ties.

The meeting reflected also on the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) to be held in Armenia in October. In this regard, the Armenian president highlighted the expectation of high-level participation from Egypt as well, emphasizing that COP17 can also create new opportunities for deepening cooperation between Armenia and Egypt in the domains of climate agenda, sustainable development, green technologies, and innovation.
