Chinese carmaker Aion is preparing to enter the UK market with a new UT electric hatchback, which will become a competitor to the Volkswagen ID 3 and the MG 4 EV. The sales of this model will start in October, and its price will be less than 30 thousand pounds, Autocar reports.

The Aion UT can travel up to 431 km on a single charge. Its battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in 24 minutes. The car is equipped with a 204 horsepower electric engine and can reach a speed of 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The model was developed in Milan. In terms of dimensions, the UT slightly exceeds the Volkswagen ID 3—it is longer and wider.

Aion explains this by the requirements of Chinese buyers, for whom a spacious interior is especially important. The carmaker previously described the UT as “China’s version of the Mini,” emphasizing the compact dimensions of this car and a more premium approach to its equipment. The cabin has a 14.6-inch screen of the multimedia system and an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel.

In cars intended for the Chinese market, the front seats can be folded completely, turning the interior—together with the back row—into a kind of sleeping place. It is not yet known whether this feature will be retained in the UK version. Aion promises to use high-quality materials, although some elements only imitate the more expensive trim. For example, the plastic window sills are made to resemble stitched leather, and the inner surface of the doors is stylized as carbon.

The UT will be sold in one package. For an additional fee, buyers will be able to get ventilation for the front seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a trunk door electric engine. For the UK market, Aion has also retuned the car, taking into account the peculiarities of local roads. The carmaker has changed the suspension settings so that the UT better copes with the bumps and potholes of UK roads.
