The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged one foreigner and four Georgian citizens with fraud and attempted fraud, which is also related to crossing the Georgian-Armenian border, Georgia Online reports.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the investigation is being conducted by the State Security Service of Georgia. One of the defendants had promised to help a foreign citizen obtain a residence permit in Georgia for $14,500.

In addition, the defendants offered to create legal grounds for the foreigner to stay in Georgia for $5,000, and ensure that this person can cross the border with Armenia and return. Of this amount, they had managed to get $3,000.

Charges have been filed under articles of the criminal code of Georgia on fraud on a large scale and attempted fraud by a group of persons with prior agreement. The crimes charged are punishable by up to nine years in prison.
