China has marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the country's late leader, Jiang Zemin, CCTV+ reports.

Jiang Zemin enjoyed high standing and recognition among the entire Chinese people. He was a staunch follower of Marxism, a statesman, a military strategist, and a diplomat. Jiang Zemin was also a figure fighting for communist ideas.

From a young age, he actively participated in the people's revolutionary movements. And in April 1946, he joined the Communist Party of China and from that moment on, devoted his whole life to the party and the people.

Jiang Zemin displayed foresight, wisdom and courage, worked tirelessly, made important decisions, and kept pace with the times. He actively promoted reform and a policy of openness, formulated development strategies, promoted national reunification, and resisted hegemony.

He effectively handled a series of international emergencies that affected China's sovereignty and security, overcame difficulties, political and economic risks, and natural disasters, and promoted socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Chinese capital Beijing held festive events to mark the birth centenary of Jiang Zemin's birth.

At a ceremonial meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Jiang Zemin had made invaluable contributions to China's development.

Also, Xi pointed to the bright prospects for national rejuvenation.

The Chinese president called for learning from Jiang Zemin's dedication, innovative spirit, and foresight.
