The United States has imposed sanctions on Japanese judge Tomoko Akane, president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to information on the US Treasury Department’s website.

Akane has become the latest target of Washington’s sanctions measures against the ICC, which is based in The Hague. The United States has repeatedly opposed the court’s actions in the past.

In particular, Washington condemned the ICC’s issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country’s former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The United States also opposes the ICC’s investigation into alleged crimes committed by American service members in Afghanistan.
