China and Indonesia have agreed to expand their military cooperation and to work more closely in the fields of minerals, energy, and technology.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who arrived in Jakarta with the Chinese minister of defense for talks with his Indonesian counterpart, urged the two countries to seize the opportunity. According to him, China intends to actively develop high-level Sino-Indonesian cooperation.

The parties agreed to cooperate in several domains at once—from artificial intelligence, defense and rail transport to green energy, satellite technology, and fisheries.

Wang said that Beijing and Jakarta agreed to support each other's core interests and intensify cooperation in energy and natural resources.

Separately, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun was welcomed by a guard of honor on Friday before talks with his Indonesian counterpart, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. According to the latter, military cooperation between the two countries will be expanded; this refers to joint military exercises, exchange of officers, and partnership in the defense industry.
