At the moment, no one has called from Russia on Robert Kocharyan's issue, and I hope no one will either, because it makes no sense, Alen Simonyan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, announced during an interview on Russian television.

Simonyan added that the rhetoric being voiced by Armenia’s former president Robert Kocharyan and his political force largely coincides with the rhetoric being voiced from Moscow by "talking heads."

He called it ridiculous to try to link the searches and arrests in connection with Kocharyan and his family to the recent verbal dispute between opposition MP Levon Kocharyan—Robert Kocharyan's son, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“It is impossible,” Simonyan noted, and disagreed with the assessment that what is happening now in Armenia regarding the Kocharyan family is a political persecution.

“The [criminal] cases along the lines of which arrests are being made against Robert Kocharyan and his family have been initiated a long time ago,” he said.

An argument had broken out Monday in the Armenian parliament between Levon Kocharyan, a lawmaker from the opposition “Armenia” Faction and Robert Kocharyan’s son, and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. And the latter had promised directly from the parliament podium to seize all of Levon Kocharyan’s assets, and had added that Kocharyan would not be able to pass these assets on as an inheritance to his children and grandchildren.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that on Tuesday at around 7am, law enforcement officers raided the house of opposition MP Levon Kocharyan, while his father, second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, was taken by investigative bodies to the Anti-Corruption Committee. Later, it became known that Robert Kocharyan and his eldest son, Sedrak Kocharyan, were detained.

In addition, also early Tuesday morning, tax authorities of Armenia sealed the Yerevan office of Toyota.

Furthermore, investigative and procedural actions were carried out at Orange Fitness club, Play City entertainment center, and in the directors' homes within the framework of criminal proceedings. The Kocharyan family has shares in these companies.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday had instructed the law enforcement to deprive second President Robert Kocharyan and third President Serzh Sargsyan of their assets.
