The Armenian authorities’ statements about their intention to apply for membership in the European Union (EU) contradict the long-term interests of the people of Armenia, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) told Lenta.ru.

The Russian MFA emphasized that Yerevan's statements on European integration "overshadow" the militarization of the EU and its preparation for a direct military confrontation with Moscow.

Also, the Russian MFA recalled the EU representatives’ statements about the need to "defeat" Russia “strategically,” as well as the EU’s continued military and financial support provided to Ukraine.

"We are convinced that membership in such an aggressive anti-Russian alliance would contradict the long-term interests of the people of Armenia," the Russian foreign ministry stated.
