Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan, who has been placed under pretrial detention, has issued a message from the Yerevan-Kentron penitentiary.
Kocharyan noted as follows:
"1. [Armenian PM Nikol] Pashinyan has another manic exacerbation of his innate fears and complexes, and the judicial system [of Armenia] serves his phobias. We could lose the country, and it seems that the people [of Armenia] have lost the instinct of collective self-preservation.
2. Another criminal charge [against me] is so absurd that it is difficult to give an assessment within the framework of normative vocabulary. But, nevertheless, I will try to do it.
Taken as a whole, speaking in general terms, in order to present such an unfounded accusation, either complete moral degradation, or legal imbecility, or complete subjugation to the Azerbaijani judicial system is necessary. That is their [i.e. the Armenian authorities] approach, that all the presidents of Artsakh [i.e. Nagorno-Karabakh] should be in prison.
3. They have dragged the country into an extremely dangerous adventurism, putting it at the center of the clash of geopolitical interests of major powers.
4. The objective of the [Armenian] authorities is obvious: to divide [the Armenian] society, create a climate of fear, hatred, incompetence, and condemnation. These are necessary conditions for fulfilling all of Baku's demands.
5. Pashinyan is not only handing over Armenian lands [to Azerbaijan], but also breaking the collective will and spiritual values of the [Armenian] nation, which form the basis of any statehood.
This must be stopped, or everyone [in Armenia] should start learning Turkish."
