The €6.6 billion available under the European Peace Facility instrument, from which the European Union (EU) has been paying for arms supplies to Ukraine since the beginning of hostilities, remains blocked since 2023, and Brussels cannot transfer this amount to Kyiv due to disagreements between the EU countries. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated this upon arrival at the Druid Valley resort in Ireland, where an informal meeting of EU defense ministers is being held.

“We are really making a push in getting the European Peace Facility unblocked. So, if that would happen in the coming days, then many Member States have already said that all the funds that they are getting back, they will give to Ukraine,” said Kallas.

She added that they know that 6.6 billion euros remain blocked in the European Peace Facility, and they are now discussing which part of this money will go to Ukraine and which to EU countries.
