Russia and Armenia have agreed to continue in a calm atmosphere the dialogue on Armenia's participation in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and its aspirations to join the European Union. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this after his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, RIA Novosti reports.

"We have agreed to conduct the dialogue in a calm mode," Putin said, commenting on Armenia's possible EU membership.

According to the Russian president, Moscow draws attention to the economic contradictions between the rules of the EAEU and the EU. In particular, their requirements for regulating the agricultural economy, technical norms, and standards differ.

Also, Putin had noted earlier that simultaneous membership in both unions is impossible from an economic point of view.
