Hraparak daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: Not only the opposition is uneasy in connection with the upcoming LSG [i.e. local self-government] elections, but also the authorities, where there is a potential passing candidate for mayor who is not with the CC [i.e. Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract Party], who is being subjected to pressure.

Yesterday, the Yerevan Anti-Corruption Committee had summoned the community leader of Noyemberyan [town], Arsen Aghababyan, and even spread through their media that he was arrested. He has been the community leader since 2016, and was last nominated by the [opposition] Country to Live party. He was summoned for questioning in an old case, but then went back.

These days, they are also “investigating” the property, business ties of the community leader of Abovyan [city], Eduard Babayan. Both of these 2 community leaders enjoy great authority in their communities; and if they are nominated, CC will not be able to nominate an equivalent competitor, and half of the victory in the LSG elections is the person of the candidate for community leader.

Now the authorities are attempting to intimidate the incumbent community leaders into either taking them to their side or not allowing them to nominate.
